Course Overview
This course will give us the opportunity to delve into aspects of restorative dentistry that will help the students transition from dental school to private practice dentistry. Topics will include Complex Amalgam Restorations, Cast Gold Restorations, Posts and Pins, Feather margin design, Partial Coverage Crowns, Direct Gold Restorations, and complex restorative options.
Learning Objectives
The student who successfully completes this course will be able to:
1. Take impressions that meet clinical requirements for an impression for diagnosis and/or indirect restorations.
2. Place pins and posts according to restorative dentistry guidelines.
3. Describe the indications and benefits of cast gold restorations.
4. Select the appropriate margin design for indirect restoration.
5. Explain the principles and benefits of vented crowns.
6. Describe the concepts of crown lengthening via tooth extrusion.
7. Demonstrate the value of complex amalgam restorations.
