Drs. Stiefel and Drangsholt honored
School of Dentistry alumni Dr. Doris Stiefel and Dr. Mark Drangsholt were honored with major awards at the annual Dean’s Club Dinner on May 4 at Seattle’s Museum of Flight.
Dr. Stiefel, DDS Class of 1954, received the 2019 Honorary Lifetime Member Award, the Dean’s Club’s highest recognition, for her trailblazing service as director of the school’s Dental Education in Care of Persons with Disabilities (DECOD) program from 1975 until her retirement in 1994. She was also named Distinguished Alumnus in 2003.
Dr. Drangsholt, DDS Class of 1984, received the UW Dental Alumni Association’s 2019 Distinguished Alumnus Award for his achievements as a clinician, researcher, and teacher. Now Chair of Oral Medicine, he has earned acclaim for his work in the area of temporomandibular disorders, orofacial neuropathic pain, and in areas beyond dentistry, in personalized science and medicine.
Also recognized at the dinner were fourth-year students Stephanie Campbell, who received the Johnny Johnson Student Leadership Award, and Stephanie Clark, who received the Jack E. Nichols Student Leadership Award. They and other members of the Class of 2019 were special guests at the dinner.
Dr. Sarah Fraker, president of the Dean’s Club, and Dr. David Minahan, a member of the board, served as co-hosts.
