The Office of Regional Affairs oversees dental programs that engage communities outside of the UW campus. We foster regional and global collaborations and seek resources to support students, researchers, and community stakeholders in a wide range of oral health programs. We especially value opportunities to conduct research with regional and global collaborators, reach underserved communities with clinical care, engage youth in exploring health professions, and expose dental trainees to a variety of practice models/patient populations.
Regional Initiatives in Dental Education
The RIDE program is a specific educational track of the UW School of Dentistry (UWSOD) DDS programs that train dentists to meet the needs of rural and underserved populations in the state and region.
DeRouen Center for Global Oral Health
The Timothy A. DeRouen Center for Global Oral Health at the UW School of Dentistry aims to improve quality of life by promoting collaboration and inclusivity in oral and craniofacial research that impacts global health.
Office of Educational Partnerships
OEP coordinates outreach programs to improve the oral health of underserved communities directly through working with our dental student’s volunteer service, and through our pathway programs.
Service Learning Rotation
In the SLR program at the UWSOD all 4th year dental students serve for at least 5 weeks in a community dental clinic delivering dental care to patients in need.
