Research

For most of its history, the School of Dentistry has been a national leader in oral health research, including oral medicine, oral biology, dental materials and dental public health. While many of our faculty members enjoy national and international reputations in their fields, students have also made their mark.

One major avenue of opportunity is the Summer Research Fellowship (SURF) Program, which allows students to work on a research project under the direction of a faculty member. A stipend and allowance for research expenses is provided. The program is announced by the first week in February for the following summer.

The School also conducts a Multidisciplinary Predoctoral Clinical Research Training Program (TL1), which provides core curriculum and interdisciplinary clinical and translational research experience for students in health professions. The program focuses on enabling students to work with a multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary team that conducts clinical research in the laboratory, in clinical agencies or in the community.
