Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program

The Kaiser Permanente Dental / Permanente Dental Group Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program is a CODA-accredited, community-based residency designed to prepare dentists for the future of integrated, patient-centered oral health care.  It is a collaborative partnership with the University of Washington.

As one of the nation’s largest independent, dentist-led, multispecialty dental groups, Permanente Dental Group provides residents with a unique opportunity to train within a fully integrated medical-dental care model serving nearly 300,000 Kaiser Permanente Dental members across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Residents gain advanced clinical experience in comprehensive dentistry while working alongside experienced general dentists, specialists, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams committed to evidence-based care, prevention, access, and total health.

Patient Population

With over 280,000 dental members, Kaiser Permanente Dental serves a significant portion of the dental market in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The patient population is concentrated primarily within the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area, extending down the Interstate 5 corridor to Salem and Eugene, and stretching north to Longview, Washington. The majority of dental patients are covered through commercial employer-sponsored plans or Medicare. Kaiser Permanente is a major choice for large public and private employers in the region, including state and local government groups.

Residents will gain experience in and/or exposure to:

  • Comprehensive restorative dentistry
  • Oral surgery and extractions, including grafting and 3rd molar removal
  • Implant placement and restoration
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Endodontics, including molar endodontics
  • Surgical Periodontics
  • Pediatric and adolescent dentistry
  • Emergency and urgent dental care
  • Treatment planning and interdisciplinary care

Dr. Felix Lee

Dr. Felix Lee received his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2000, from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), School of Dentistry.

He is a native Oregonian and was raised in Beaverton. He moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, after high school, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Michigan. After that, he returned home to attend dental school at OHSU. After dental school, he received additional training in public health dentistry and enjoyed a stint in that field before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2002.

As a general dentist, he helps patients achieve overall wellness through oral health. He works with his patients through various treatment options and helps them build healthy habits that lead to oral wellness. He offers a broad scope of care for his patients with an emphasis on prevention, which plays a big part in his day-to-day role.

Dr. Matthew Chung

Dr. Matthew Chung received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2008. Driven by a genuine desire to help others, Dr. Chung is particularly passionate about the opportunity dentistry provides for both local and international mission work.

In his practice, Dr. Chung is committed to delivering patient-centered care, aiming to make every visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Outside the office, he is an avid snowboarder, hiker, pickleballer, and traveler who also enjoys unwinding with a good movie at home.

Dr. Dylan Sorber

Dr. Dylan Sorber received his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2014, from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), School of Dentistry. He is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, having completed his undergraduate degree at Linfield College, dental training at OHSU, and general practice residency at the Portland VA Hospital.

As a general dentist, he enjoys all aspects of dentistry with a particular focus on oral surgery procedures. He works with his patients to deliver personalized treatment that will lead to their optimum oral health.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, camping, coaching, and caring for his yard.
