Ms. Phillips was the Director Health & Safety for the School and was an active member on numerous committees including the Dean’s Leadership Council, SOD Curriculum Committee, Dental Admissions, Health & Safety, the Clinical Services Committee and was a member of the SOD Safe Start Team and COVID Task Force.

She has had the honor of serving on the Dean’s Search Committee and is a past representative of the University of Washington’s Faculty Council of Faculty Affairs. She also served as the School’s practice management ‘Thread Champion’.

Sandra has been a member of AADS/ADEA since 1997; Her activities included: a poster presentation at the 74th annual session entitled ‘Outcomes Comparison of Solo-Practitioner and Group Practice Care Delivery Models’; participation in the Legal Special Interest Group at the 77th annual session ‘Providing Patient Care: Legal rights and responsibilities of the Dental Education Institution; in 2006 she was appointed as the Western Regional Chair of the Clinic Administration Section for ADEA and served as the Section Secretary in 2011, and Section Chair from 2012-2014 and was the Section Councilor elected in 2021.

Dr. Zhang’s research is mainly focused on mineralized tissue biology and regeneration. He is also interested in biomimetic restorative materials, dental implantology and applications of innovative technology in Prosthodontics and restorative dentistry.

Dr. Zhang held a faculty appointment (Clinical Instructor) in the University of Connecticut before he joined the University of Washington as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Currently he is a tenured Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He has served as Vice Chair of the Restorative Dentistry Department and Interim Director of the Graduate Prosthodontics program. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP) and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). He is a member of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics (AAFP) where he serves as the Chair of the Tylman Research Committee. He is also the Vice Chair of the ACP Research Committee. Dr. Zhang is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) where he serves in Test Construction Committees (TCC) for Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT) and Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE). He was inducted to be a member and served as national President (2015) of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Zhang has received an ACP Geriatric Award, the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Morita Research Award and NIH/NCRR/ITHS Joint Ignition Award. He has mentored a number of graduate students (MS, MSD and PhD) and visiting scholars. Some of them have received national and international recognitions such as Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the IADR Mineralized Tissue Group, Journal of Endodontics Awards and David Felton Best Clinical Report Award from the Journal of Prosthodontics. Dr. Zhang has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and more than 10 book chapters in the areas of dental implantology, clinical Prosthodontics, tissue engineering, dental materials and oral biology. He is a co-inventor of two US patents on biomimetic materials for dental applications.

Dr. Zhang is a Section Editor of the Journal of Prosthodontics, a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and ad hoc reviewer for many leading professional journals. He is also an invited expert reviewer of a few national research grants in the US and foreign countries. Dr. Zhang has been invited to lecture, moderate or chair in many national and international conferences and numerous CDE courses in the dental schools of the US, China and Southeast Asian countries. Dr. Zhang has a dental license in the State of Washington and works in a part-time private dental office.

Currently, Dr. Schwedhelm maintains a private practise in Seattle as well as being a Clinical Associate Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Washington. In the past he has held other titles at the University of Washington including Acting Assistant Professor (2000-2001), Clinical Assistant Professor (1999-2000), Affiliate Assistant Professor (1998-1999), Acting Assistant Professor (1996-1998) and Clinical Instructor (1994-1996). At the University of British Columbia he held the position of Associate Instructor of Restorative Dentistry from (1983-1985). He held the positions of Associate Instructor (1981-1983) at Indiana University and Assistant Instructor (1978-1979) at the Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico. He has also been a consultant for the Washington State Department of Health, Health Professional Quality Assurance Division, and the Investigation Service Unit from March 2000 to the present. From 1990 to 2001 he was an Attending Staff member at Lions Gate Hospital. He has held a Co-Chair position on the Curriculum Committee at the University of Washington, as well as having been an Accreditation Team Member in 2002 and participating in the Career Enhancement/Growth Program in the Department of Restorative Dentistry from 2001 to the present. He holds dental licenses in Mexico, Alberta (Canada, non-practicing), British Columbia (Canada, non-practicing), the state of Washington and the state of Illinois.

Dr. Schwedhelm’s honors include a scholarship for post-graduate studies abroad from the Consejo de Ciencia y Tecnologica, Dedication and Enthusiasm in Teaching Award from the University of Washington Class of 1997, Outstanding Part-Time Instructor Award from the Class of 1998, Excellence in Teaching Award from the Class of 2000, Excellence in Teaching Award from the Class of 2001, Certificate of Excellence Award from the Class of 2002, Bruce R. Rothwell Distinguished Teacher Award 2004, 2002 Teacher of the Year Award from the Class of 2004, Full Time Faculty of the Year Award from the Class of 2003, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society in June 2002. In March of 2006 he received the Charles Craig Teaching Award from the Omicrom Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Schwedhelm continues to attend CDE courses in the field of Prosthodontics to keep himself abreast of the latest developments and techniques. He also has several publications to his name in his chosen field. Other areas of interest to Dr. Schwedhelm include new implant techniques and dental technology.

Dr. Schwedhelm is also fluent in both Spanish and English.

Dr. Schwedhelm holds family to be very important and has participated in his children’s lives not only as a father, but as a coach of youth sports. He is also very involved in his church and volunteering in youth-oriented programs.

Dr. Sadr’s scholarly work is focused on research and development of new restorative dental materials, mainly resin composites and adhesives. He is an advocate of minimally invasive dentistry, and has been investigating non-invasive diagnostic modalities including optical coherence tomography to image teeth and surrounding structures without the use of ionizing radiation. Dr. Sadr is interested in adoption of advanced technology and digital workflow in the clinical practice of dentistry.

Dr. Sadr maintains a faculty practice at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and has been a member of the American Dental Association, International Associations for Dental Research (IADR), International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry, Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry, and other professional organizations.

Dr. Sadr has authored and coauthored over 160 full-length peer-reviewed research publications, and been invited to speak at several dental conferences and schools worldwide. He has received external funding for his research from national and international organizations in the United States and Japan. He has also served as a reviewer in the fields of dentistry, materials science and optics including Journal of Dental Research, Dental Materials, Journal of Dentistry, Dental Materials Journal, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Journal of Adhesive Dentistry and others.

Dr. Sadr has supervised postgraduate students and post-doctoral researchers in various institutions including UW (B4T) and TMDU in projects that have brought his group domestic and international scientific awards, including five consecutive outstanding research prizes in adhesive dentistry. In 2019, Dr. Sadr was acknowledged by the class of 2021 with the 2nd Year Faculty Award.

Dr. Sadr has a background in campaigning for social justice and experience in media and information technology. He enjoys reading, learning languages, music, outdoor activities, skiing and travelling with his family.

Dr. Rubenstein was Professor and Director of the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Service. His research focus was that of developing cutting edge technological approaches toward the oro-facial rehabilitation of the patient with anatomical compromise in the region of the head and neck. Dr. Rubenstein along with the surgical/reconstructive team at the University of Washington Medical Center have collaborated to facilitate improved function and restoration of such patients with significant and severe compromise and insult to their oro-facial anatomy stemming from management of oro-facial cancer treatment, trauma or congenital disorders. He also has attempted to develop research projects for graduate students and undergraduate dental students stemming from his seminal research on interface fit of implant components and prostheses. Further, clinical trials on cutting edge techniques such as Procera® All Ceramic Restorations and computer generated implant abutments and frameworks has also been a focus of research activity. He has authored a number of publications in the periodic and text literature. As well he has actively contributed to University of Washington Continuing Education Programs, and lectured locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Rubenstein was a Fellow in the Washington State Society of Prosthodontists and served as it’s President in 2002.  He was also a member of the Academy of Osseointegration.  He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow in the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics as well as this organization’s President in 2007 and a Fellow in the American College of Prosthodontists. He was a Fellow in the Academy of Prosthodontics. He served on editorial review boards of the The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and the International Journal of Prosthodontics. Dr. Rubenstein was listed in the inaugural edition of “Best Dentists in the United States, and in Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s Listing of Seattle’s Top Dentists from 2010 to date.

Dr. Rubenstein had a wide array of interests which include hiking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, travel especially to places he has never been, chess, reading, theater, classical music, and gardening to name a few.

Dr. Lepe is Associate Professor and Division Head of Prosthodontics in the Restorative Dentistry Department. His main research focus has been on impression materials. He has however conducted clinical and laboratory studies on various other dental materials including: resin bonding agents, cements, gypsum stone products and post & core systems.

Dr. Lepe maintains a private practice in the Faculty Practice Clinic in the UW Dental School. He is a member and currently serves on the Credentials committee of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, is a member and past president of the Washington State Society of Prosthodontists, is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and is a member of the International Association for Dental Research. He is also an Honorary member of Phi Omega and of Circulo de Estudios Odontologicos de Guadalajara study group. Dr. Lepe has served on the editorial board of the Operative Journal and the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.

Dr. Kronstrom’s research specialty is in the fields of Dental Implants, Decision Making in Prosthodontics and Dental Education. His research focuses on clinical studies in Implant Dentistry in order to develop new and less expensive treatment options for edentulous patients.  He has given several presentations nationally and internationally and authored numerous articles in international peer-reviewed prosthodontic journals.

Dr. Kronstrom maintains a private Faculty Practice and is a member of the International College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, the International/American Association for Dental Research.  He is mentoring a PhD student at Malmo University, Sweden, and is a reviewer for the International Journal of Prosthodontics, the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, and BMC Medical Journal. He serves as an IRB member on the Human Subjects Committee at the University of Washington.

Dr. Kronstrom’s personal interests include his family, dogs and gardening.  He has a sincere interest in classic American automobiles.

Dr. Dogan has a dental background in pre-, and clinical teaching and is currently instructing several classes including Restorative Dentistry, Dental Anatomy and Occlusion, and Functional Occlusion. He is also an implant advisor in Restorative Dentistry for the Undergraduate Clinic, and supervises clinical graduate students in prosthodontics and third- and fourth-year dental students in restorative dentistry.

Dr. Dogan directs the DENTCL 631 Prosthodontics Clerkship program for the third year dental students.

Dr. Dogan is actively participating in clinical practice and carrying out clinical research. His research focuses on developing new treatments towards novel dental health care, in which Dr. Dogan is in a unique position to direct experimental test groups and formulation of remineralization for relevance to clinical applications. Based on his background as a clinician with the expertise of basic sciences in cell culturing and bacterial tests with different dental materials, Dr. Dogan leads the establishment of new formulations and selection of in-use treatments for comparison to the remineralization protocols developed. He is also focusing on in vivo mineralization and characterization of the remineralized tissues. Dr. Dogan supervises dental students and graduate students in research.

Dr. Dogan has held faculty appointments as an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of Hannover Dental School in 2000 and 2001. He maintains memberships in the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), the German Society of Dental Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGZMK) and the German Society of Dental Implantology (DGI). He holds dental licenses in Germany and the state of Washington . He was awarded the Best Dissertation of 1998 award by the German Society of Periodontology.

Dr. Dogan’s personal interests include classical and world music, movies, and outdoor activities (especially running, hiking, biking, and snowshoeing).

Dr. Chung is a Professor of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. His current research focus remains on nano restorative materials used in clinical dentistry and the biomechanics of dental implants. He has authored numerous scientific and clinical articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Chung is a fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and the International College for Dentists, a member of the International Association for Dental Research and the American College of Prosthodontists. He served as reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals. He is a frequent presenter at scientific meetings in and outside North America.

Dr. Chung’s personal interests include swimming, fishing, travel and classical music.

Dr. Chen’s research interests are in the area of all ceramic systems and the application of CAD/CAM technology in the restorative dentistry.

Dr. Chen is a member of the  American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, American College of Prosthodontists, and board-eligible for the American Board of Prosthodontics. Dr. Chen’s clinical interests focus on esthetics and implant restorative dentistry. He currently maintains a part-time private practice in Seattle with his wife, Dr. Kanako Nagatomo. Dr. Chen has presented his research and clinical work at several scientific meetings both nationally and internationally. He has authored numerous articles in various peer reviewed journals and coauthored a book chapter. Dr. Chen was acknowledged by the Class of 2019 for contributing in teaching at the University of Washington.

Dr. Chan has pursued research in many areas of Dentistry, including dental materials and how they interact with the biology of the human mouth.  He has authored numerous scientific and clinical articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Chan has held faculty appointments at a number of schools apart from the University of Washington, including the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and the University of Iowa. He has served on several editorial boards, and committees for various organizations. He is a member of the Asian-Pacific Academy of Dentistry, The Indian Academy of Restorative Dentistry (Honorary Member), the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association (Eastern District), the International Association for Dental Research, the American Association of Dental Schools Operative and Biomaterials Division, the Hong Kong Dental Association (Overseas Member), the Dental Materials group of the IADR/AADR, the Academy of Dental Materials, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, the Washington State Dental Association and the Seattle King County Dental Society.

In 2006 he received the Outstanding Faculty Member Nomination from the Freshman class of the Medical College of Georgia.  At the University of Texas Health Science Center he was nominated as Teacher of the Year in the Lab Instructor category in 1997. Also in 1997 he was elected a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and won a Presidential Teaching Award at the University of Texas Health Center. In 1995 he was recognized in the BF Goodrich Collegiate Inventors Program.

Dr. Anderson’s research interests are in the area of Operative Dentistry.

Dr. Anderson maintains a private practice in Kent, WA. He is currently a Lecturer, Course Director in Restorative Dentistry and a WREB Preparatory Course Director at the University of Washington. In addition to teaching, he is also active in acquiring resources for endowments which improve faculty and student development.

Dr. Anderson is a member of the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the Seattle District Dental Society, the Washington State Dental Association, a Life Member of the American Dental Association, a Life Member of the Dean’s Club in the University of Washington School of Dentistry, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the President’s Club at the University of Washington. He is a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry (President, 1988-89), Associated Ferrier Study Clubs (President, 1981-82), the George Ellsperman Gold Foil Seminar (President, 1972-73), and the University of Washington Dental Alumni Association (President, 1996).

Dr. Anderson has received many professional and academic honors in his career, including: Omicrom Kappa Upsilon, several Outstanding Teacher Awards, was named Commencement Speaker by the class of 1984, and received a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1994 from the Dental Alumni Association. He has also been awarded Fellowships by the American College of Dentists (1979), the International College of Dentists (1982) and the Academy of Dentistry International (1982). In 1997 he received an Award of Excellence from the Academy of Operative Dentistry. In 1998 he was awarded the University of Washington School of Dentistry Dean’s Club Award, and in 2001 he received the International College of Dentists Distinguished Fellow Award. The American Academy of Gold Foil Operators awarded him their highest honor, the Distinguished Member Award. He is a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Dr. Anderson was Managing Editor of the journal Operative Dentistry from 1974-1999.

He is the author of several publications and essays, relating primarily to his work in Operative Dentistry.

Dr. Anderson interests include his family, church and a great deal of community involvement. He has a keen interest in exotic and classic cars, and has won several awards for his efforts in this area.
