Dr. Suresh Nayar graduated from the Government Dental College, Calicut, Kerala, India in 1993 and, completed postgraduate training in Prosthodontics at the prestigious College of Dental Sciences, Manipal University. He began his academic career as a Senior Lecturer in Bangalore, developing his passion for teaching and mentorship, before working as a specialist Prosthodontist in the Middle East and subsequently moving to the United Kingdom.
He gained competitive entry into the five year specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield, where he obtained Membership Diplomas in Prosthodontics from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh, England, and Glasgow, followed by the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, leading to his inclusion on the UK General Dental Council specialist lists in Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Endodontics and Periodontics.
In 2009, he was appointed Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Oral Rehabilitation at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, alongside roles as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at the University of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry. He served as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the General Dental Council, and as Regional Specialty Adviser for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In 2013, he was recruited as a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist to the internationally renowned Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM) and as an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta, Canada, where he became Director of Clinics at iRSM, and achieved tenure.
In 2026, he joined the University of Washington School of Dentistry as Director of the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Service, continuing his commitment to specialist clinical care, education, research, and innovation in oral rehabilitation.
Dr Nayar has received research funding of over $110,000 as a primary investigator and nearly $240,000 in team funding. He has authored 38 peer-reviewed publications with a focus in maxillofacial prosthodontics and three textbook chapters, with two of them in the seminal textbook on maxillofacial prosthodontics by Dr John Beumer.
His research interests are in:
- Improving patient outcomes in head and neck oncology oral rehabilitation with advanced jaw reconstruction and innovative digital technologies both nationally and internationally.
- Exploring patient perspectives in head and neck cancer survivors.
