Scope of Practice

Prosthodontics (Full Mouth Rehabilitation) is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.


Dr. Sami Dogan

Dr. DoganDr Dogan holds a DDS (1991) from Ankara University Dental School in Turkey. He is also the recipient of a Doctor of Medical Dentistry (1998) degree from the Medical University of Hannover in Germany. Dr Dogan finished his advanced training in Prosthodontics at the University of Washington. He is a certified prosthodontist and member of American College of Prosthodontists.

Dr Dogan speaks fluently English, German, and Turkish.

Message from Dr Dogan

I seek to understand my patient’s chief complaints and design my treatment according to my patient’s needs and my expertise. With my advanced training in prosthodontics, my goal is to restore missing or lost tooth structure in optimal appearance and function. I believe in team work with my patient and our supporting staff in my practice.

Dr. Mats Kronstrom

Dr. KronstromDr. Kronstrom holds a DDS from Lund University, Sweden (1980). He earned a Certificate in Prosthodontics from the Postgraduate Dental Education Center, Orebro, Sweden (1994) and a PhD in Prosthodontics from Malmo University, Sweden (1999). Dr. Kronstrom’s research specialty is in the fields of Dental Implants, Decision Making in Prosthodontics and Dental Education. His research focuses on clinical studies in Implant Dentistry in order to develop new and less expensive treatment options for edentulous patients. His practice is focused on surgical placement of implants and treatments with implant supported fixed and removable Prosthodontics as well as conventional crown and bridge. He serves as the Director for D4 Faculty Practice and Chair of the Faculty Practice Board at UW.

Xavier Lepe, DDS, MS

Dr. LepeDr. Lepe holds a Bachelor of Science degree (1976) and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (1980) from Universidad de Guadalajara, a specialty certificate in Combined Prosthodontics (1985) and a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology (1987) from Loyola University Chicago.

Ernesto Ricardo Schwedhelm, DDS, MSD, FRCDC(P)

Dr. SchwedhelmDr. Schwedhelm received his DDS at the Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico in 1978. From Indiana University, he received an MSD (1983), Certificate of Fixed and Removable Partial Prosthodontics (1983) and a Certificate of Removable Prosthodontics, also in 1983. The national Dental Examining Board of Canada certified him for practice in August of 1983. He completed a Fellowhip in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1995 and a Certificate of Prosthodontics from the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia in 1997.

Dr. Hai Zhang, DMD, PhD

Dr. ZhangDr. Zhang received a DMD from West China University of Medical Sciences (1992), a PhD in Oral Biology (2002) and a Certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Connecticut (2002). Dr. Zhang is a board certified Prosthodontist and a Fellow in American College of Prosthodontists (FACP). Currently he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and the interim Director of Graduate Prosthodontics program. He holds a general dental license in the state of Washington. His practice is primarily focused on Prosthodontic procedures (dental implants, crowns and bridges, cosmetic veneers, removable partial and complete dentures) in addition to general dentistry.
