The University of Washington International Dentist DDS Program (UWIDDS) offers qualified graduates of foreign dental programs the opportunity to earn the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Only a small number of students will be accepted each year.
Successful completion of the advanced standing placement DDS program will allow graduates to take state or regional board examinations to be eligible for dental licensure and dental practice within the United States. The UWIDDS is a full-time, daily program. The accepted students will begin in the winter quarter and complete the program in 10 quarters. The program will consist of integration into the standard predoctoral program’s clerkship model, classroom lectures and direct patient care.
Information for Foreign Trained Dentists
Permission to practice dentistry in the State of Washington is dependent on the candidate’s possession of a dental degree from a dental school approved by the Washington State Department of Health, Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC). Additional information is available on the DQAC website.
Some individuals meet the education portion of the Washington state requirement for licensure by earning a degree from one of our graduate programs providing clinical training in a specialty area. More information on our graduate programs.
