Dr. Nayar Named Maxillofacial Prosthetics Service Director

The UW School of Dentistry and Department of Restorative Dentistry are excited to announce that Dr. Suresh Nayar has been appointed as the new Director of the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Service. In this role, he will lead a hospital-based program dedicated to patients with head and neck cancer, trauma, and congenital craniofacial conditions.

Dr. Nayar is an internationally trained clinician-scientist and academic leader specializing in maxillofacial prosthodontics, jaw reconstruction, and complex oral rehabilitation. His foundational training and specialist education in prosthodontics and restorative dentistry were completed in India and the United Kingdom. He holds a BDS, MDS, and MPhil from the University of Sheffield and has attained multiple specialist membership and fellowship diplomas from the three Royal Colleges in the United Kingdom.

Recently, Dr. Nayar was honored with the Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry (UK) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in recognition of sustained contributions to the profession. Before relocating to North America, he served as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry within the UK National Health Service (NHS), managing complex multidisciplinary prosthodontic cases.

Prior to his UW appointment, Dr. Nayar spent over a decade at the University of Alberta and the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine, Canada, where he developed and led a tertiary referral service for complex craniofacial developmental disorders, trauma, and oncologic rehabilitation. His work focused on digitally driven jaw reconstruction and osseointegrated implant rehabilitation, integrating surgical planning with digital design to create patient-centered clinical pathways.

Dr. Nayar’s academic and research interests lie at the intersection of digital design, surgery, and prosthodontics, encompassing 3-D imaging, virtual surgical planning, additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis and outcome prediction.’

At the UW, Dr. Nayar aims to establish a global center of excellence. His vision includes expanding patient-centered care through integrated digital workflows, fostering workforce growth via a dedicated fellowship, and advancing translational research to improve long-term functional and psychosocial outcomes for patients. His goal is to position the program as a national and international benchmark for excellence in clinical care, education, and research in maxillofacial prosthodontics.
