About OMS: Putting Your Best Face Forward
Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) is a specialty of medicine and dentistry dedicated to the treatment of diseases and conditions of the teeth (extraction, implants, third molars management, infections) and jaws (trauma, tumors, birth defects and deformities, reconstruction). Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are licensed to administer office-based anesthesia, including local anesthesia, conscious sedation, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia, providing a range of options for the comfort and safety of our patients.
The OMS clinic is staffed by the UW Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty Practice, which consists of Board-certified and Board-eligible specialists who each practice the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This includes:
- Management and removal of third molars (wisdom teeth)
- Orthognathic surgery
- Dental implants
- Cancers and lesions of the face and jaw
- Repair of congenital defects and developmental anomalies of the face
- Facial reconstruction
- Temporomandibular joint and pain control
The University of Washington Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic phone hours are from 8:15 am to 11:45 am and 1pm to 4:45 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Friday. For appointments, patients should call 206.543.5860 and select option #1. It is recommended that you obtain a referral form from your dentist or physician and bring it with you to your appointment. Many oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures are covered by medical insurance. In order to facilitate best coverage, please bring both your medical and dental insurance cards to your appointment.
In case of snow or other or other inclement weather, please call the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at 206.543.5860 before departing for your scheduled appointment. It may be necessary to reschedule your appointment if normal clinic operations have been curtailed due to weather.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic is located in room B-350 of the B-Wing on the third floor of the Health Sciences Center, which is on the WEST side of the University of Washington Medical Center.

If there is an emergency after being treated in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, the patient should page the “oral and maxillofacial surgery resident on call” at our affiliated Harborview Medical Center by calling 206.744.3000 after hours, weekends or holidays. Please be sure to identify yourself as a patient at the School of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. During regular business hours (8:30 am to 4:45 pm), post-operative questions and problems should be addressed by calling the Clinic 206.543.5860.
