The UW School of Dentistry continued to maintain a place among the world’s leading dental schools in the annual rankings released Wednesday by Britain’s Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) educational organization.
The School of Dentistry ranked 24th in the world and eighth in the United States in the QS rankings by subject. The University of Michigan dental school ranked first in the world, followed by the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the University of Hong Kong dental school.
After the University of Michigan, the only other U.S. dental school in the world’s top 10 was at the University of California San Francisco. The next highest U.S. school was at Harvard University, ranking 11th worldwide. The UW School of Dentistry’s placement among U.S. schools was unchanged from 2022.
The QS rankings are based on several factors related to research, including research citations and reputation, and they also weigh reputation among employers. Last year, the survey added an evaluation of schools’ sustainable research collaborations with other institutions of higher education. The UW has consistently ranked in the top tier of dental schools assessed by QS in the last several years.
