Dr. Rawal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also on the medical staff at the University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Rawal joined the faculty at UW July 2015 prior to which, for 10 years he was a full-time faculty member at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Rawal received his BDS from Annamalai University in 1986 and his MDS in Oral Pathology from Gujarat University in 1990. Further, he received his MS and Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from The Ohio State University in 2005. He also attended an externship in Advanced Radiological Interpretation at the University of Toronto. Dr. Rawal has extensive academic and teaching experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. His career has taken him from India to the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago to The Ohio State University and the University of Tennessee before joining University of Washington.

Dr. Rawal is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and has recertified in 2013. He is a Diplomate/Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP). He is also a member of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). He has and continues to serve on several national level committees including the AAOMP’s Fellowship examination committee, Education committee. He was the Chair of the AAOMP Audio-Video committee and is the Chair of the Virtual Microscopy committee. He is also the Chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology section of ADEA for the year 2015-2016. Dr. Rawal has served on several college level and faculty search committees as well as in the faculty senate while at UTHSC.

Dr. Rawal has been a course director for several undergraduate and graduate level courses in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Systemic and General Pathology. He has provided numerous continuing education courses and invited lectures. He has received several honors and awards through his academic career.

Dr. Rawal has over 60 poster, abstracts and peer-reviewed publications. He also serves as a reviewer for about 20 different journals notably, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology (Triple O), Head and Neck Pathology, JADA, Oral Surgery (Journal of British Association of Oral Surgeons), Oral Diseases and Clinical and Experimental Dermatology (Journal of British Association of Dermatologists).

Dr. Rawal’s interests lie in mucosal soft tissue tumors and gnathic bone lesions. He brings over 25 years of experience in diagnostic clinical pathology and histopathology to the University of Washington’s Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology biopsy service.
