Dr. Schwedhelm received his DDS at the Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico in 1978. From Indiana University, he received an MSD (1983), Certificate of Fixed and Removable Partial Prosthodontics (1983) and a Certificate of Removable Prosthodontics, also in 1983. The national Dental Examining Board of Canada certified him for practice in August of 1983. He completed a Fellowship in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1995 and a Certificate of Prosthodontics from the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia in 1997.

Currently, Dr. Schwedhelm maintains a private practise in Seattle as well as being a Clinical Associate Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Washington. In the past he has held other titles at the University of Washington including Acting Assistant Professor (2000-2001), Clinical Assistant Professor (1999-2000), Affiliate Assistant Professor (1998-1999), Acting Assistant Professor (1996-1998) and Clinical Instructor (1994-1996). At the University of British Columbia he held the position of Associate Instructor of Restorative Dentistry from (1983-1985). He held the positions of Associate Instructor (1981-1983) at Indiana University and Assistant Instructor (1978-1979) at the Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico. He has also been a consultant for the Washington State Department of Health, Health Professional Quality Assurance Division, and the Investigation Service Unit from March 2000 to the present. From 1990 to 2001 he was an Attending Staff member at Lions Gate Hospital. He has held a Co-Chair position on the Curriculum Committee at the University of Washington, as well as having been an Accreditation Team Member in 2002 and participating in the Career Enhancement/Growth Program in the Department of Restorative Dentistry from 2001 to the present. He holds dental licenses in Mexico, Alberta (Canada, non-practicing), British Columbia (Canada, non-practicing), the state of Washington and the state of Illinois.
Dr. Schwedhelm’s honors include a scholarship for post-graduate studies abroad from the Consejo de Ciencia y Tecnologica, Dedication and Enthusiasm in Teaching Award from the University of Washington Class of 1997, Outstanding Part-Time Instructor Award from the Class of 1998, Excellence in Teaching Award from the Class of 2000, Excellence in Teaching Award from the Class of 2001, Certificate of Excellence Award from the Class of 2002, Bruce R. Rothwell Distinguished Teacher Award 2004, 2002 Teacher of the Year Award from the Class of 2004, Full Time Faculty of the Year Award from the Class of 2003, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society in June 2002. In March of 2006 he received the Charles Craig Teaching Award from the Omicrom Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
Dr. Schwedhelm continues to attend CDE courses in the field of Prosthodontics to keep himself abreast of the latest developments and techniques. He also has several publications to his name in his chosen field. Other areas of interest to Dr. Schwedhelm include new implant techniques and dental technology.
Dr. Schwedhelm is also fluent in both Spanish and English.
Dr. Schwedhelm holds family to be very important and has participated in his children’s lives not only as a father, but as a coach of youth sports. He is also very involved in his church and volunteering in youth-oriented programs.
