Graduate Program

The Department of Pediatric Dentistry shares the University’s overall mission to generate and disseminate knowledge and to serve the community. Through its exemplary educational, research and service programs the Department:

  • Develop knowledge, proficiency, and competence in providing specialty care as a pediatric dentistry specialist for infants, children through adolescence, and individuals with special health care needs.
  • Prepare the residents for clinical and academic pediatric dentistry careers.
  • Demonstrate critical, independent thinking and understanding of the scientific methodology and experimental design as required of a life-long learner.
  • Educate and expose the residents to different medical and dental specialties and foster collaboration.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and humanistic patient centered care.

The advanced education in pediatric dentistry program at the University of Washington  is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Successful completion of the two-year program (24 months) leads to a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD). We strongly encourage all graduates to seek APBD Board Certification upon graduation.

This is a joint Certificate/Master’s degree program. Students must be accepted to the Pediatric Dentistry Program and the Graduate School at the University of Washington. The research component will result in the award of a Master of Science in Dentistry.
