Even before becoming practicing clinicians in their third year, students have a chance to experience dentistry in a community setting through RUOP. The four-week program takes place in the summer after first year and gives students a pre-clinical training opportunity at rural and underserved community dental clinic sites.
Students perform caries risk assessments, apply fluoride varnish, take alginate impressions, mount X-rays, perform basic dental charting and more. Information will be presented and applications accepted by the end of winter quarter in first year.
