Course Overview

This is a new elective course, for those interested in relevant artificial intelligence (AI) topics in dentistry. It is designed to equip future dentists with a knowledge base blending data science and clinical sciences via detailed content of technologies and innovations, as well as professional compliance and civil obligations of AI systems. Over the quarter, participants will attend in person and online didactic lectures. Furthermore, participants will perform an analysis-based project to nominate an existing AI supported system and complete an analysis utilizing topics learnt through the course.

Learning Objectives

The student who successfully completes this course will be able to:

  1. Explain AI concepts critical for dental patient care, practice management, education, and research.
  2. Demonstrate readiness to fulfill future professional obligations as practicing dentists dealing with AI.
  3. Present capstone projects in AI that simulate real-life professional scenarios.
  4. Apply informed decision-making to determine the most relevant technologies and innovations suitable for their practice.
