Course Description
What is the reason that TMDs happen after dental procedures? Do we really know the patient’s TMJ complex baseline before a dental procedure? How to adjust your restoration plan to fit the patient’s TMJ complex status? How to manage common TMDs in a dental office? The knowledge and clinical skill will help you to avoid unnecessary complaints after your dental procedure, such as myalgia, arthralgia, neuralgia or chewing dysfunction.
Course Objectives
As a result of attending this class, you will be able to:
- Evaluate the anatomy and neurophysiology of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Complex
- Discuss how to know your patient’s TMJ complex status? What is the cause-and-effect correlation?
- Describe Common Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMDs) and their diagnostic criteria
- Explain management guidelines and the appropriate usage of oral appliances.
Instructor
Yang Gu has worked in teaching, private practice, and research at dental schools in China and Canada for more than 20 years. She is currently the director of the Oral Pathology Clinic and an oral pathologist and assistant professor at Dalhousie University for the last three years. She has served as a peer reviewer for the Triple O Journal and BJSTR.
