Course Description
Peri-implant diseases lead to peri-implant bone loss, compromising implant outcomes in both function and esthetics. As a multiple-factor disease, peri-implantitis becomes a great challenge in identifying the etiologic factors and the following treatments. Several strategies have been introduced in the treatment of peri-implantitis, including non-surgical and surgical approaches. Multiple factors may affect the treatment outcomes and predictability. This presentation will include current understandings of etiology factors, treatment strategies of peri-implant diseases, and factors affecting treatment success.
Course Objectives
As a result of attending this course you should be able to:
- Diagnose peri-implant diseases, including peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
- Understand etiology and contributing factors of peri-implant diseases
- Provide treatment strategies of peri-implant diseases, including the pros/cons and indications
Instructor
Yung-Ting (Lizzy) Hsu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Periodontics, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She is involved in both didactic courses and clinical teaching in pre-doctoral and post-doctoral level. Dr. Hsu published more than 30 articles, book chapters, and abstracts. She is also an associate editor of Journal of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, and reviewer of several dental and periodontal journals. Her research interests focus on regeneration, treatment and prevention of peri-implant diseases, and interdisciplinary therapy. She was awarded several teaching and research awards, such as AAPF Nevins Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowship (2018), Osteology Education Grant from Osteology Foundation (2018), and AAPF fellowship to the Institute for Teaching and Learning in the Health Professions (2016). Dr. Hsu received her DDS and MDSc degree in Periodontics from Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan. She also holds a Certificate and MS degree in Periodontics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.
