Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of onlay and CAD/CAM preparation techniques to ensure successful scanning and digital design outcomes. Participants will learn to identify and apply proper cuspal coverage, evaluate which cusps require protection, and understand both classic and modern preparation designs supported by current literature. The course will highlight common design errors and overlooked factors that contribute to restoration failure. Attendees will also gain insight into the CAD/CAM digital workflow and the key principles necessary for achieving precise, reliable scan results.
Course Objectives
As a result of attending this webinar, you will be able to:
- Define the different types of Indirect CAD-CAM preparations, according to different authors.
- Understand cuspal coverage.
- Explain how to assess which cups should or should not be protected/covered.
- Discuss classic preparation designs.
- Understand what Literature says about how to prep the new prep designs.
- Identify which common factors are Not considered in the design that may lead to a failure.
- Explain the principles of Cavity Preparation for Scanning to be successful.
- Understand the CAD/CAM Digital Flow.
- List the influencing factors causing the failure of scanning and design of the restoration.
Instructor
Jennie Gabriela Ferrer-Romero graduated as a Valedictorian at the Central University of Venezuela. She then completed a Post-Graduate Specialization in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry (2003). She attended additional studies in the US, where she excelled and placed on the President’s Honor List, and the National Dean’s List for several years. She is an Honorary Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society of USA, since 2003, and a member of other international and national organizations including American Academy of Operative Dentistry since 2017. She has received both national and international recognition for NBDE Part II and NBDHE clinical case study publications that she has authored.
She has clinical and lecture experience since 2002. In Central University of Venezuela, she taught dental students and dentists lectures and hands-on courses in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry. She has taught Dental Sciences and Dental Specialties as well as clinical skills at a college and university level in the State of Florida, USA since 2011.
She earned a Master of Science degree and a Certificate in an Advanced Education Program in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry from 2017-2020 at the University of Florida. She also earned her National Board Certification in Dental Examinations. She works full time as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Restorative Dental Science Department, Operative Division. She sees her own patients in Faculty Practice. She also devotes time in research. She has run the DMD Aesthetic Clinic Digital Dentistry together with mainly 2 other faculty since 22. She is the Course Director Assistant of Operative III DMD course. She teaches in all the clinics, preclinics, and many academic courses in the DMD Program as well as taught in the Clinics of the Residency Graduate Operative Program. She has taught in the Continuing Education Restorative Expanded Functions and she is passionate to train for the ADEX-CDCA Dental Licensure Courses. She is the founder and chief leader of the “Only Restorative Dentistry” volunteering community work in the non-profit organization FreeDom Clinics where she continues to see patients through the teaching of UF DMD students on one weekend a month while giving back to the underserved community from 2021. She has a family, a supportive husband, a beautiful 18 year old daughter, and a wonderful mother, and she loves and serves God.
