Change the date! We’re moving this class to fall, and it will be all in person. Friday, October 20, 2023 will be all lecture at Mountaineers Club in Seattle, and then Saturday and Sunday (if needed), October 21-22, 2023 will be 3-hour workshops. You are welcome to attend just the lecture and not the workshop if you wish; however, if you wish to attend the workshop, you must attend the lecture.

We will offer two (up to four) possible 3-hour workshops on the weekend of October 21-22, 2023. Workshop attendees must attend the October 20 all-day in person lecture in order to participate in any of the in-person workshops on the weekend of October 21-22, 2023 (content will be the same at each workshop, attendees only need attend one workshop.)

Washington State does not require a certificate for laser training, rather appropriate training for the use of a piece of equipment (for example, a Cavatron). There are a handful of states that do require a hygienist to have laser certification (Nevada, Kentucky, etc.). This training will provide the experience to be prepared to begin using a laser in your hygiene practice, and will also fulfill the training requirement topics and number of hours of training for any state that does require a certification.

This training does not provide a certificate for this training as a Certificate program at a University denotes a 2-3 year training program and is not the correct description of this continuing education program.

Course Description

Laser is changing the way traditional Dental Hygiene is viewed and practiced. This program will explore the value and benefit of Hygiene Laser assisted therapy that maximizes clinical end-point and the healing effect of the Diode Laser. You will learn how the absorption of light energy disinfects and reduces inflammation associated to the periodontal infections. Expand the adjunctive use of your diode laser as an essential key element not limited to periodontal therapy but for optimum risk management recall. In this hands-on clinical simulation program, you will learn the specifics of laser fiber optic delivery and discover the delicate nature of using a laser device. Working with simulation exercises, this workshop is designed to build confidence and clinical skill sets ideal for successful implementation of the Diode Laser. Join in as we take this journey of scientific discovery that will shift your skills to another level of dependable and predictable healing through technologically advanced levels of patient care.

Course Objectives

As a result of attending this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss the correlation between emerging science and laser technology when combating the periodontal infections.
  • Understand thermal disinfection and learn how the laser promotes physiologic healing.
  • Interpret the clinical methods associated with laser sulcular debridement, disinfection, and the technique used to obtain optimum clinical results.
  • Identify the variables of laser energy protocols as they apply to the treatment of Gingivitis, and the various Stages of Periodontitis.
  • Discover new laser applications that optimize clinical results and patient treatment acceptance.
