Course Description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of digitally designing and manufacturing complete removable prostheses using CAD/CAM technology. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse clinical workflows involved in this process, while also learning to identify the various components essential for digital fabrication. The course delves into strategies for optimizing efficiency in private practice, comparing the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of digital systems versus traditional methods. Additionally, participants will explore different manufacturing techniques, equipping them with the knowledge to effectively implement and evaluate these innovative approaches in their practice.

Course Objectives

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Obtain a proper intraoral and extraoral scan
  • Explain the difference between printing and milling
  • Discuss the pros and cons of digital complete denture
  • Describe the different clinical workflows for the digital complete dentures
  • Recognize the limitation of digital complete denture in a clinical setting

Instructor

Dr. Tamer El-GendyTamer El-Gendy is a Professor and the Director of Prosthodontics at The Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, ATSU. He obtained his dental degree from Cairo University’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1996. Dr. El-Gendy then pursued advanced training in Prosthodontics and earned his Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 2001. Additionally, he completed a Postdoctoral Implant Dentistry Fellowship at The Ohio State University in 2002, focusing on advanced implant patient restoration and the treatment of implant complications. Dr. El-Gendy earned his DMD from Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health in 2010.

Following his fellowship, Dr. El-Gendy joined The Ohio State University College of Dentistry as a full-time assistant professor in 2002. His exceptional dedication to education led to the recognition of his outstanding teaching abilities, receiving the Larry Peterson Outstanding Young Educator Award from Ohio State University in 2004 and being named The Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2009.

Since 2004, Dr. El-Gendy has been a member of the faculty at The Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, where he imparts his expertise in courses such as Complete Denture, All Ceramic Restorations, and Dental Implant procedures to pre-doctoral and graduate students. His commitment to sharing knowledge extends to national and international platforms, where he delivers lectures in various continuing education courses and meetings.

With a specialization in prosthodontics, Dr. El-Gendy’s practice focuses primarily on fixed and removable prosthodontics, esthetic dentistry, and implant restorations. His practice is conveniently located in Phoenix, Arizona, where he offers his patients exceptional care and expertise.

Dr. El-Gendy has been appointed as a member of the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners since January 2021, contributing to the regulation and advancement of dental practices. Additionally, he serves as a CDCA (Commission on Dental Competency Assessments) examiner since 2020, ensuring the high standards of dental competence and professionalism.
