Course Description

The session will highlight the guidance from the CDC, ADS (formerly known and OSAP) White Paper and emerging guidance on maintaining dental water quality and routine monitoring. Dr. Rai will provide a broad overview of methods available to disinfect and test dental water quality including DUWL management best practices including impact of periods of non-use, extended closures. She will shine light on the most encountered hurdles to DUWL maintenance and testing including attitudes, knowledge gaps and practical application in individual, group practice settings and larger institutions. Dr. Rai will share ways to enhance staff engagement and compliance with DUWL protocols. Lastly, she will provide information on how to overcome hurdles to instituting DUWL maintenance and monitoring protocol.

Course Objectives

As a result of attending this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the need for appropriate DUWL maintenance protocol including disinfection and routine monitoring
  • Identify resources that provide recommendations and guidance on DUWL quality
  • Describe different categories of products that are available for DUWL treatment and testing
  • Apply the knowledge for understanding and overcoming barriers to instituting a successful DUWL management protocol whether in individual and group private practice settings or larger institutions
  • Apply the knowledge to educate and engage the dental team in DUWL compliance

Instructor

Ramneek Rai has been serving as the Director of Health and Safety at UCSF School of Dentistry since 2018 providing health and safety oversight for multiple dental clinics that fall under UCSF Dental Center. She draws on her unique skill set of being a general dentist that has been in private practice and is heavily involved with academia providing dental infection control and safety education and health and safety compliance. She successfully led the Dental Center through the COVID-19 Pandemic and continues to support the patients, providers, staff and learners at UCSF Dental Clinics. She has been an active member of ADS (formerly known as OSAP) since 2018 and has served in the role of Director on the ADS Association Board since 2021; the Secretary to the ADS Foundation and Association Boards for FY 2022-2023; the Vice Chair to the ADS Association Board FY 2023-2024; the Association Board Chair FY 2024-2025. Currently, she is serving as the Immediate Past Chair of the ADS Association Board.
