Course Description

This course will provide clinicians an overview of the different technical aspects involved in acquiring, reconstructing, and viewing cone beam CT images to improve image quality and lead to better use of CBCT as an essential tool for diagnosis.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, participants will:

  • Describe the fundamentals of CBCT acquisition.
  • Describe the effect of and rationale for using different CBCT exposure and acquisition parameters.
  • Improve the image quality for clinical applications.

Instructor

Dr. Gustavo Machado SantaellaDr. Gustavo Machado Santaella is an assistant professor and director of the Division of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Department of Diagnosis and Oral Health at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He has a Master’s (2015) and a Ph.D. (2019) in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of Campinas, Brazil. Dr. Santaella has published extensively on CBCT’s image quality, artifacts, and improving the diagnosis.
