The oral health care professional should be able to identify common soft tissue lesions that present in the oral cavity and should know how to manage patients with such conditions. However, such information is commonly forgotten because even common lesions only present in a low percentage of patients. This course is designed to inform and refresh the participant about the most common oral pathologic lesions of the oral cavity.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Identify common oral soft tissue lesions encountered during routine examination
- Understand which dangerous diseases may mimic common lesions
- Determine how to properly manage patients presenting with various oral pathologic lesions
- Discuss the treatment plan and prognosis of various oral pathologic lesions, and how to answer common questions that patients might have.
Instructor
Dr. Dave Chandra is an Assistant Professor at the OHSU School of Dentistry where he teaches pathology to dental residents and students, as well as practices both clinical and surgical oral pathology. He received his DMD and PhD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, his post-doctoral research training at the University of California, San Francisco, and his oral pathology specialty training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dave has authored numerous original research articles and has received NIH funding as both a Principal and Associate Investigator. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
