STEVE M. LEIGHTY, ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY CLASS OF 1995
Dr. Steve M. Leighty died on Oct. 15, 2015 after suffering a heart attack at the California Dental Association meeting in Sacramento, Calif. He was 61.
Dr. Leighty was born on June 7, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo., to Dr. Richard and Anne (Noe) Leighty. He moved to California to attend dental school at the University of California at San Francisco, then received his graduate degree in oral surgery at the University of Washington.
“Steve was a true gentleman, a steadfast advocate for oral and maxillofacial surgery and dentistry and an even greater person,” said Monty C. Wilson, president of Oral and Facial Surgeons of California. “He will truly be missed by all who knew him.”
Dr. Leighty is survived by his wife, Karen Edwards Leighty; son Michael; mother, Anne; brother Mark (Debbie); sister Karen (Max) McDaniel; stepchildren Robb, Kristen, Bradlee Davis and Stephanie (Ashton) Felix; in-laws Bob and Donna Edwards; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
