DR. KENNETH E. WICAL, PROSTHODONTICS CLASS OF 1973

Kenneth WicalDr. Kenneth E. Wical, DDS, MSD, a longtime resident of Loma Linda, Calif. passed away on July 9, 2012, in Redlands, Calif.  Memorial services were held at the Loma Linda University Church on July 22, followed by a private interment.

Dr. Wical was born to Florence and Carlton Wical on May 9, 1930, in St. Helena, Calif. He graduated from Loma Linda Academy, the USC School of Dentistry and the UW Prosthodontics program. He spent 33 years as a Professor and Assistant Dean at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, retiring in 1995.

A passionate teacher, Dr. Wical devoted his life to his students. He also served his country in the U.S. Public Health Service. He served as a missionary dentist on several Native American reservations and established the dental clinic at Monument Valley, Utah. Dr. Wical had deep religious convictions and served as a deacon in his church.

He was an accomplished private pilot and enjoyed hiking, camping and mountain climbing. He loved to work on anything with an engine.

Dr. Wical is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia; daughters Susan A. Baughman and Carol L. Johns; sons Scott C. and Kenneth W.; grandsons Travis, Austin, Kenneth and Thomas; sister Phyllis Wical; and brother Dr. Charles Wical.

Remembrances in his name may be made to the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, the USC School of Dentistry, the UW School of Dentistry, Loma Linda Academy, Loma Linda Broadcasting Network or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
