Course Description
This course provides an overview of the historical evolution of dental ceramics and how advances in composition, processing, and CAD/CAM technology have enhanced their reliability and expanded their clinical use. Participants will learn the key properties that differentiate major ceramic categories—such as feldspathic, leucite-reinforced, lithium-based glass ceramics, and high-strength polycrystalline materials like zirconia—and how these characteristics guide clinical decisions involving case selection, preparation design, bonding protocols, and cementation.
Course Objectives
As a result of attending this webinar, you will be able to:
- Understand the historical evolution of dental ceramics and the technological advances that shaped current materials.
- Identify the key properties that differentiate major ceramic categories used in restorative dentistry.
- Recognize how material characteristics influence clinical decision-making.
- Evaluate appropriate bonding and cementation protocols based on ceramic type and clinical indication.
- Integrate modern ceramic materials into clinical practice with improved predictability and confidence.
Instructor
Lara Christie Monteiro is Assistant Professor in Operative Dentistry at the University of Louisville, with additional certifications in Endodontics, Orthodontics, and Implantology. Over 20 years of experience in clinical practice and dental office management, along with 7 years dedicated to teaching both clinical and laboratory-based courses. Actively involved in research, committed to the principles of minimally invasive dentistry, integrating clinical practice with evidence based Dentistry.
