“Grand Rounds” pediatric dental lecture series announced

March 2, 2017 - Dr. Thomas Dodson, Interim Chair of the UW Department of Pediatric Dentistry, has announced the launch of “Department of Pediatric Dentistry Grand Rounds,” a wide-ranging series of bimonthly lectures of great interest to the dental community. State health official prescribes steps to fight opioid crisis

February 1, 2017 - A leading Washington state health official on Tuesday urged medical and dental providers at a UW dental research forum to support more stringent prescribing guidelines and other measures to address the opioid abuse crisis. Read more about opioid crisis.

UW Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery set to open new state-of-the-art facility

January 25, 2017 - The University of Washington Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery announces the opening of the UW Northwest Center for Oral and Facial Surgery in northeast Seattle. Local Syrian refugees receive dental screenings

Dental problems in cleft lip and palate linked to abnormal salivary glands

January 17, 2017 - Dental problems related to cleft lip and palate may be caused by abnormalities in salivary glands and an imbalance of immune compounds in the mouth, according to a study conducted by researchers including a School of Dentistry adjunct faculty member and graduate researcher. School’s Kathy Hobson receives MLK volunteer honors

January 13, 2017 - Kathy Hobson, a counseling services coordinator in the Department of Oral Health Sciences, received a Volunteer Service Award during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday commemoration at the University of Washington Health Sciences Center on Jan. 12. Dr. Esther Wilkins, founder of UW dental hygiene program, dies at 100

December 14, 2016 - Dr. Esther Wilkins, who founded the University of Washington School of Dentistry’s dental hygiene program and was widely regarded as the godmother of modern dental hygiene, died on Dec. 12 in Boston at the age of 100. Read more about Dr. Esther Wilkins.

Third-year students receive clinical coats

Dentistry faculty helps rebuild jaw and palate in rare procedure

June 3, 2016 - A team of University of Washington surgeons, including two School of Dentistry faculty members, has rebuilt a patient’s upper jaw and hard palate in one day in a rare procedure that utilized three-dimensional computerized design and implant-bone integration technology. Dean Berg named Pediatric Dentist of the Year
