Dr. Martha Fales, former UW dental hygiene chair, dies at 101

May 2, 2018 - Dr. Martha Howard Fales, who chaired the Department of Dental Hygiene at the University of Washington School of Dentistry from 1961 to 1986, died on April 29 in Olympia, Wash., just weeks before her 102nd birthday. Read more about Dr. Martha Fales.

UW researchers find no-drill way to heal cavities

April 18, 2018 - A University of Washington research team that includes School of Dentistry faculty members has designed a natural product using engineered proteins called peptides to rebuild tooth enamel and heal cavities in their early stages. Read more about healing cavities.

Dr. Michael Baldwin named UW Magnuson Scholar

Dr. Donald Chi named Pediatric Dentist of the Year

UW launches new training program for children’s oral health

Student competition winners announced at Research Day

January 30, 2018 - At the School of Dentistry’s annual Research Day on Tuesday, Kristie Cheng was announced as the winner of the Summer Research Fellowship (SURF) Student Clinician Competition. Oral health research center renamed

November 29, 2017 - The Center for Global Oral Health, established at the School of Dentistry in 2013 to promote international collaborations in dental research and education, has been renamed to honor its founder, Dr. Timothy A. DeRouen. Read more about Oral health research.

Dr. James Johnson named interim dean

October 26, 2017 - The University of Washington has announced that Dr. James Johnson has been named interim dean of the School of Dentistry. Dr. Johnson, who has chaired the school’s Department of Endodontics since 2003, takes over from Dr. Joel Berg, who stepped down Oct. 23. Dr. John Ingle, noted endodontics educator, is mourned

September 28, 2017 - Dr. John Ingle, who founded the graduate endodontics program at the University of Washington in 1959 and was considered one of the world’s foremost figures in this field of dentistry devoted to root canals, passed away Monday in California. Read more about Dr. John Ingle.

Prosthodontics students take honors in research competition

September 27, 2017 - Dr. Michele Buda and Dr. Konstantina Angelara, recently graduated residents in the School of Dentistry’s Graduate Prosthodontics program, have won first and third place respectively in the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics’ annual Tylman Award competition. New study reports benefits of dental therapists’ care

August 11, 2017 - In the first long-term study of dental therapist utilization, University of Washington researchers have found that greater access to the therapists’ services in Alaska resulted in more use of preventive dental services and fewer extractions among adults and children.
