What is Oral Surgery?

Oral Surgery includes:

  • Management and removal of third molars (wisdom teeth)
  • Dental implants

How do I become a patient?

The University of Washington Oral Surgery Student Clinic phone hours are from 8:15 am to 11:45 am and 1pm to 4:45 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Friday. For appointments, patients should call 206.685.3591 and select option #1.  It is recommended that you obtain a Oral Surgery Student Clinic Referral Form (PDF) from your dentist or physician and bring it with you to your appointment.

Fees and Insurance

Many oral surgery procedures are covered by medical insurance.  In order to facilitate best coverage, please bring both your medical and dental insurance cards to your appointment.

Clinic Location

The Oral Surgery Student Clinic is located in room B-350 of the B-Wing on the third floor of the Health Sciences Center, which is on the WEST side of the University of Washington Medical Center. Please visit our location and directions page for directions, transit, and parking information.


Dr. Evans

John Richard Evans, DDS

Dr. John Evans is Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Education for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is an attending surgeon at Group Health Cooperative, Harborview Medical Center, University Hospital, University of Washington, Children’s Orthopedic Hospital and Seattle Veteran’s Administration Hospital. He holds a Washington dental license as well as a general anesthesia, deep sedation permit.

Emergency Care

If there is an emergency after being treated in the Oral Surgery Student Clinic, the patient should page the “oral and maxillofacial surgery resident on call” at our affiliated Harborview Medical Center by calling 206.744.3000 after hours, weekends or holidays. Please be sure to identify yourself as a patient at the School of Dentistry, Oral Surgery Student Clinic. During regular business hours (8:30 am to 4:45 pm), post-operative questions and problems should be addressed by calling the Clinic 206.685.3591.  If you experience a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.
