Course Overview

Faculty members from multiple departments will participate with senior dental students in this course, which will include seminars in oral medicine and in periodontics, preparatory sessions for the WREB exam, and submission of a portfolio case report as a Competency assessment in the student’s choice of Mucosal Lesions or Osseous Lesions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate competence in:

  1. Examine, assess, diagnose, and plan treatment for patients with oral diseases, including but not limited to osseous and mucosal disorders (seminars and portfolio).
  2. Communicate and collaborate with other members of the health care team to facilitate the provision of health care (portfolio).
  3. Apply principles of ethical decision-making and professional responsibility (portfolio).
  4. Access, critically appraise, apply, and communicate scientific and lay literature as it relates to providing evidence-based patient care (portfolio).
  5. Provide oral health care within the scope of general dentistry (seminars and portfolio).
  6. Describe how to prepare for the WREB exam (seminars)
