Course Overview

This elective course provides students with knowledge in a wide array of topics relating to a successful career in dentistry. Seminars featuring experienced dentists and experts from different fields will inform students regarding the business side of dentistry. They will serve as resources, as students face challenges in the dental field.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the potential career options available to dentists
  2. Describe the process of becoming an associate dentist
  3. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of building, purchasing, and renovating dental practices
  4. Analyze simple financial data relating to dental practices
  5. Articulate legal requirements and issues associated with the operation of a dental practice
  6. Define principles of managing and operating a successful dental practice
  7. Demonstrate appropriate strategies for debt reduction, personal wealth management, and retirement planning
