Course Description

This course will employ examples from our radiology clinic to illustrate both normal and pathologic findings seen on Panoramic and Cone-beam Computed Tomography images.

Course Objectives

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand indications for prescribing panoramic and Cone-Beam Computed Tomography imaging.
  • Identify normal 2D and 3D anatomy of the orofacial structures.
  • Describe the radiographic appearance of lesions.
  • Provide a differential diagnosis for common odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions.

Instructor

Dr. Steven R. SingerSteven R. Singer is Professor and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and Interim Director of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1982 and practiced general dentistry for over 25 years while teaching Oral Radiology. Additionally, he is an International Professor at Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences in Guntur, India. Dr. Singer has co-authored over 65 peer reviewed publications and 150 abstracts. He has presented at national and international meetings and has delivered numerous continuing education courses. He serves on several editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, in addition to leadership roles in a number of professional organizations.

Dr. Mel MupparapuMel Mupparapu is the Director of Radiology and Imaging in the Department of Oral Medicine at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. A former Fulbright Scholar for the United States Department of the State, Dr. Mupparapu teaches maxillofacial pathology, medicine, and imaging to DMD students, Hospital residents and to the GPR program residents at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Philadelphia. He is also a clinical professor at the Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine, Newark in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences.
