Shunning fluoride linked to immunization refusal

Dr. ChiSchool of Dentistry faculty member and researcher Dr. Donald Chi has uncovered a behavioral link between parents who refuse to immunize their children and parents who decline topical fluoride treatments for them.

Dr. Chi, Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences, found that parents who declined to immunize their children were 60 percent more likely to refuse topical fluoride treatments. His findings were published in the American Journal of Public Health.

Dr. Chi also holds an adjunct appointment in the UW School of Public Health. Read more about his study here, or view the full study here.
