Dr. Joel Berg, Chair of Pediatric Dentistry and Dean-Designate at the UW School of Dentistry, was installed as President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry at the AAPD’s annual meetings in San Diego last week.
Dr. Berg, a member of AAPD for 26 years, has previously been the organization’s president-elect (2011-2012), vice president (2010-2011) and District VI trustee (2006-2009). He is also Director of The Center for Pediatric Dentistry at the UW as well as Lloyd and Kay Chapman Chair for Oral Health, and is Dental Director at Seattle Children’s hospital. Earlier this spring, he was named the next Dean of the School of Dentistry, and will assume that post on Aug. 15.
He is also a past president of the AAPD Foundation, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a fellow of the International College of Dentists.
The AAPD has about 8,400 members in private offices, clinics and hospital settings who serve as primary care providers for millions of infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. In addition to pediatric dentists, the organization also represents general dentists who devote a significant part of their practice to pediatric patients.
