Friday Course Description

Due to patient demands, there is an increased tend to restore patients' dentition with esthetic restorations.  However, the esthetic outcome is not only dependent on the quality of the restoration provided by the dental technician, but is directly related to the health of the soft tissue, the emergence profile generated, and the integration and blending of the restoration with the soft-tissue.  Therefore, it is pertinent for restorative dentists to acquire the knowledge, understanding, and skills for adequately managing the soft tissue throughout all the stages of the restorative treatment in a manner that will facilitate success in terms of longevity and esthetics.

The purpose of this course is to provide the knowledge and understanding of managing and enhancing the soft tissue restorative interface in the esthetic zone.  The course will address the management of the soft tissue as related to diagnosis, preparation, design, concepts of provisionalization, impression procedures, communication with the surgeon, emergence profile management for implant supported crowns and ovate pontics, and delivery procedures for implant-supported restorations.  Each of these will be discussed in an interactive environment to support the clinical knowledge comfort level of the participants and to ensure optimal success in practice.

Lecture Course Objectives

As a result of attending this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Reinforce the understanding and knowledge of fundamental periodontal concepts and their affect on restorative outcomes with natural dentition and implants.
  • Refine preparation-design techniques and discuss provisionalization and impression techniques which optimize a successful outcome in terms of gingival health.
  • Address restorative techniques as related to surgical procedures (such as esthetic crown lengthening, ridge augmentation, and implants), including protocols for modifying the emergence profile of ovate pontics and implant-supported crowns.
  • Refine insertion procedures for implant-supported restorations as related to soft tissue management.
  • Have the knowledge and ability to treatment plan patients in terms of esthetics for crowns, bridges, and implant-supported restorations in the esthetic zone.

Saturday Hands-on Course

For those interested in applying the concepts learned in Friday's lecture, a hands-on program will be administered on Saturday.  Participants will fabricate provisional restorations using the combination shell technique. Participation is limited to 15 participants in order for participants to receive maximize attention from the instructor. Please register for this program early as it is expected to sell out.
