Alumni News
About 80 alumni and spouses attended a reception to meet Dean Joel Berg on Oct. 20 during the American Dental Association annual meetings in San Francisco.
Guests at the reception, which took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel next to the Moscone Center convention site, heard Dean Berg briefly discuss our School’s mission to identify and produce the “dentist of 2025.” He also noted that the School will make substantial changes in clinical operations and curriculum to support this mission.
After thanking the alumni for attending, Dr. Berg also recognized and lauded Dr. Peter Milgrom of Oral Health Sciences, who also attended the reception. Earlier in the day, Dr. Milgrom received the ADA’s Norton Ross Award for his extensive achievements in clinical research.

Dental alumni enjoyed their annual lunch “on the road” instead of on campus on Oct. 13, as the Dental Alumni Association hosted its annual football gathering at the Silver Cloud Hotel near Seattle’s CenturyLink Field.
The change from the customary venue came about with Husky Stadium still undergoing renovation and the UW playing its 2012 home games at the Seahawks’ stadium. In the meantime, alumni enjoyed the festive gathering with new Dean Joel Berg on hand and a special appearance by former Huskies star Mario Bailey. Bailey, who holds the Huskies career and season records for touchdown catches, was a star of the 1992 Rose Bowl team, memorably striking a Heisman Trophy pose after a touchdown catch as the Huskies whipped Michigan.
The UW didn’t fare quite as well after the lunch, losing to USC, 24-14. But the alums had a fine time at their event, with Jeremy Chaison (’06, Ortho ’08) emceeing and handing out raffle prizes with the help of Randy Newquist, Director of Alumni Services.
