Search panel names 3 Deanship candidates

Jan. 31 – The Advisory Search Committee for the Deanship of the UW School of Dentistry has recommended to the UW Provost that three candidates be invited for on-campus interviews:

  • Leon A. Assael, DMD, Professor and Chair, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Oregon Health & Science University
  • Stephen C. Bayne, PhD, Professor and Chair, Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics, School  of Dentistry, University of Michigan
  • Joel Berg, DDS, Professor and Lloyd and Kay Chapman Chair for Oral Health, University of Washington.

Each of the three candidates will meet with School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students at a series of forums at the Health Sciences Center in February. Each candidate will also appear at a public forum, at which the candidate will give a brief presentation and entertain questions. The schedule of events is as follows:

Dr. Assael, Feb. 6-7

  • Student Forum: Feb. 6, 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Hogness Auditorium (Room A-420)
  • Faculty Forum:  Feb. 7, 10-11 a.m. in Hogness Auditorium
  • Staff Forum:      Feb. 7, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in Room T-625

The site also includes information about a Catalyst online survey to allow feedback and input on the candidates. The survey will close at noon on Feb. 16. After comments are compiled, the search committee will meet with the Provost to discuss the candidate visits.

The search committee was appointed by the UW Provost in June 2011 to identify and recommend candidates. Members are:
